If you want to improve your product demo video’s conversion rate, don’t generate a new video every time. Keep the motion and composition that already work, then use keyframes and prompts to revise only the scenes where viewers drop off. It’s faster and easier to validate.

86% is a hypothesis to validate, not a target

The claim that “putting a video on a landing page increases conversions by 86%” is often repeated from old marketing materials, but it’s hard to verify the original study’s conditions and sample. There simply isn’t enough evidence to use it as a baseline for every product demo.

In fact, Unbounce’s analysis of landing pages across 10 industries found that pages with video performed similarly to, or worse than, pages without video. Across mobile and desktop and across multiple acquisition channels, video itself did not guarantee conversion. The takeaway is simple. Test whether the video contains scenes that help people make a buying decision—not whether video merely exists.

That does not mean product videos are useless. In Wyzowl’s 2026 survey, 63% of consumer respondents said short videos were their preferred way to learn about a product or service, and 89% said video quality affected their trust in a brand. Still, this was a self-reported survey of 266 marketers and consumers, so it should be distinguished from experimental data that predicts an individual company’s conversion rate.

Read the number this way instead

Rather than asking, “Can we achieve 86%?”, ask, “Does video version B increase CTA click-through rate or signup completion rate compared with version A over the same period?” Your visitors’ real behavior matters more than an industry average.

A good demo is not simply a video that shows lots of features. Vimeo recommends a structure that presents the problem, shows how the product solves it, then connects the outcome to the next action. If the video gets long, split it into short demos by problem rather than one comprehensive piece, and measure drop-off by playback segment.

The real benefit of AI editing is preserving what should stay fixed

Luma’s latest Ray 3.2 Modify is not a model for making a new video from an empty prompt. It uses video-to-video processing to change materials, backgrounds, colors, product depiction, and more based on an existing video’s duration, motion, framing, and edit timing. It accepts source videos up to 20 seconds and creates results of the same duration, requiring at least a prompt or a keyframe.

Here, “fixing it without regenerating everything” does not mean conventionally patching only some pixels in the file. The model outputs a revised clip. It more closely means reusing the validated original’s camera movement, hand motion, product position, and scene timing as input conditions. That reduces the composition and motion variability that comes with generating again from scratch.

Edit strength is also an experimental variable. In the earlier Modify Video, Adhere was presented for transformations close to the original, such as lighting, texture, and color; Flex for mid-level transformations that retain structure; and Reimagine for substantially changing the entire scene. For product demos, it is safer to begin with lower variation in scenes where accuracy matters, such as logos, package shape, and UI.

Natural-language editing is possible too. Luma’s Modify with Instructions describes a workflow of selecting a frame where the target is clearly visible, then specifying the target and outcome, such as “change the red dress to a blue suit.” It says it supports tasks like object removal and replacement, background changes, and virtual product placement.

With keyframes, a prompt becomes an editing brief

Do not rely on text alone for scenes where the product’s shape or wording matters. Ray 3.2 can link up to 64 keyframes to specific frame indices in the source video and interpolates the look of intermediate frames from those images.

For example, in an 8-second tumbler demo, if the package at 0 seconds, the lid opening at 3 seconds, and the logo close-up at 7 seconds matter, extract frames from those three moments. Correct the logo or color precisely in an image-editing tool first, then place them back at the same frame positions. That gives you a clearer evaluation standard than repeatedly relying on text such as “keep the brand logo.”

Write the desired end state, not the action, in the prompt

Ray 3.2 takes motion and timing from the source video. Its official documentation also advises describing the intended state of each frame—such as “matte navy packaging, white logo, bright studio background”—rather than retelling a time-ordered story.

You can also use separate reference images for demos featuring people or characters. The Ray3 Modify guide describes uploading the source video and a character reference, editing the start and end frames, then adjusting Modify strength. But having a reference feature does not automatically make product labels, finger counts, or small UI text accurate. The final review still needs to happen frame by frame.

The core of an experimental demo is not a flashy transformation, but a comparable version that changes only one thing from the original. You need to change only one of the following to interpret the result: when the product appears in the first three seconds, background contrast, the context of the usage scene, or the final CTA.

A four-step editing loop to run this week

Choose one conversion and two supporting metrics

For a landing page, choose one final conversion: completed signup, purchase, or demo booking. For supporting metrics, select only two among play rate, 25%/50%/completion rate, CTA click-through rate, and drop-off by segment. If you make views the final outcome, a version unrelated to revenue may win.

Create a baseline video of 20 seconds or less

Include the problem, usage scene, outcome, and CTA in one flow, and film the product action slowly. Keep it to 20 seconds or less to fit Ray 3.2’s input limit, and avoid takes where the product is obscured or moves out of frame. Keep the original file separate from the compressed publishing version as well.

Edit only one variable in Dream Machine

Upload the video to a Board, then right-click the video asset and open Modify Video → Ray 3.2. For the first attempt, use high Adherence and designate the frame where the product first appears and the frame just before the CTA as keyframes. Name both what to preserve and what to change, such as “Keep the product shape and camera movement; change only the background to a bright kitchen.”

Choose the next edit point after the A/B test

Keep the page copy, CTA copy, and traffic conditions the same, and split exposure only between original A and edited B. If the sample is not large enough, do not declare a winner; record post-play drop-off and the drop-off segment just before the CTA as candidates for the next keyframe. Discard versions with unstable product shapes, logos, captions, or hand-to-object contact before performance testing.

In this loop, AI is not a button that creates conversion rates. It is an experimental tool for preserving validated filmed elements while inexpensively changing only the visual elements that failed. A structure that answers one question with one edit lasts longer than an external number like 86%.
