Its Product Hunt listing also describes it as a product that plans direction, density, and pull compensation by region.

This distinction matters because embroidery machines do not read PNG pixels directly. In embroidery digitizing, you need to decide whether to use fill stitches for broad enclosed areas and satin stitches for narrow borders and lettering. Stitch length and density, underlay that supports the top thread, stitch direction, and region order all change the result. The official Ink/Stitch workflow likewise instructs users to set these values per object and plan the sewing order to reduce color changes and jump stitches.

The biggest practical change is less about eliminating outsourced digitizing and more about moving up quoting and sample decisions. Before committing to actual production, sellers can review an embroidery-style product image alongside an estimated stitch count, while operators can first separate simple logos from logos that need expert refinement.

In Stitch AI’s studio, you can edit thread color, stitch treatment, angle, density, finishing, 3D puff, and fill flow for each detected region. For now, treat pricing and speed as figures stated by the company. The maker says conventional digitizing services cost $10–$50 per design and take about 24 hours, while Stitch is currently free; however, it explicitly says the free policy is a launch-stage decision, not a permanent promise. An independent overview confirms the same benefits while noting that quality on real fabric cannot be verified without sewing it, and that the free period is also temporary. So before placing long-term savings in a quote, it is safer to check pricing again after monetization.

Receiving a DST does not mean you are ready for production

More important than a neat screen preview is whether the shape holds when stitched with the same fabric, thread, and needle. As a needle repeatedly passes through fabric, the material can pull in the stitch direction or be pushed sideways. This can create gaps between color areas, misalign outlines, or cause puckering. Because the required compensation varies with the fabric, stabilizer, design size, stitch type and density, underlay, hooping, and machine speed, Ink/Stitch also recommends test sewing under the same conditions as production before adjusting shapes.

The DST format has easy-to-miss constraints too. Brother explains that Tajima DST does not contain specific thread color information, so the machine temporarily displays a default color sequence. Do not hand the operator only the file—also provide Stitch AI’s production sheet and the actual thread numbers to be used. Since Stitch suggests colors using general names, final matching against your in-stock threads by manufacturer is also a human responsibility.

Confirm output formats before ordering in particular. The Product Hunt maker introduction mentions PES and EXP alongside DST, but the current official FAQ says that only Tajima DST is provided, with PES and EXP next on the support list. Equipment such as Brother machines may accept specific formats—including PES, PHC, and DST—depending on the model, and the manufacturer also warns that excessively dense or heavily overlapped data can cause thread or needle breakage. Do not rely only on the claim that a file is “convertible”; ask the production vendor first about the machine model, accepted formats, and maximum embroidery area.

A 3D preview is approval material, not a production pass certificate.

Stitch AI’s render and DST are generated from the same stitch plan, but the render is not a physical test that reproduces real fabric stretch, stabilizer, tension, needle, and thread thickness. Thread manufacturer Madeira also explains that suitable density varies with the combination of thread thickness and needle size, and that its figures are reference values that change with the fabric and intended effect. Do not treat approval of a sales image and approval for mass production as the same stage.

Four steps for testing your first logo without a production mishap

  1. Create a baseline file with an easy-to-reproduce logo.
    Start with a logo made up of one or a few colors, bold outlines, and large lettering. Open a product in the Dynamic Mockups editor, choose Embroidery as the decoration method, and upload the logo. When generation is complete, first read the compromises report for parts the tool gave up on or simplified, such as gradients, details thinner than thread, and letters likely to close up.
  2. Focus your studio review on just three things.
    Check that no regions are missing or merged, that narrow strokes and broad areas have appropriate stitch treatments, and that the density heatmap has no remaining risk points. Then use the stitch player to replay color changes and jump paths. Record brand colors separately using the actual thread manufacturer and color number, rather than generic color names on screen.
  3. Send the file and production sheet together as one package.
    Use the same version name for the DST, production sheet, and product-placement image. Check finished dimensions, total stitch count, color order, and trims in the production sheet, and ask the vendor whether its machine accepts DST directly. If another format such as PES or EXP is required, compare the original and converted output again for size, stitch count, and color-stop points after conversion.
  4. Test sew just one piece under actual production conditions.
    Use the same fabric, stabilizer, thread thickness, needle, hoop, and machine settings as the real product. Document blocked lettering, gaps between colors, outline misalignment, puckering, and thread breaks with photos. If there is a problem, do not change density, direction, underlay, and pull compensation all at once—adjust one possible cause at a time. If you lock only the DST and production sheet that passed testing as the “approved version,” you can reuse the basis for your decisions on later orders as well.
